JV boys dunk on Coral Academy

Tuesday, Jan. 7 the Lassen High School JV boy’s basketball team took on the visiting Coral Academy of Science Reno Falcons.

The JV boys played an aggressive four quarters leading to an overwhelming 49-11 victory over the visiting JV Falcons.

The JV Falcons had a good start winning the tip-off and scoring the first basket of the game, but this would be there lone basket of the first quarter.

Then the game progressed into a battle at the JV Grizzlies’ basket until Noah Williams came in to sink Lassen’s first basket of the game. Coming to the end of the first quarter, the JV Grizzlies made a string of rebounds and lay ups, leading to a 15-2 first quarter.

JV Grizzly Juven Reyo started things off the second quarter, first with two free throws, then coming off a steal for a simple jump shot.

The JV Falcons looked for any opening they could find, but the JV Grizzlies’ defense shut down every attempt at the basket with Reyo leading the defense with blocks and steals, allowing the JV Falcons only three points going into the half.

Williams and Blake Schaap came in from the half leading the Lassen offense, garnering eight points in the first two minutes of the third quarter.

The JV Falcons were able to garner two points before the end of the quarter but not before Elijah Wheeler and Cody Kirack made a play to be remembered.
As Wheeler approached the Falcons and their defense began to press, he bounced the ball to Kirack who was waiting under the basket, made an easy lay up to make the last shot of the third quarter.

The final quarter was a slower one for the JV Grizzlies as they slowed their pace, but not their willingness to keep the JV Falcons from progressing much at all.

The JV Grizzly defense held strong only allowing the visiting Falcons three points in the fourth quarter, putting the JV Grizzlies at 49-11 over their opponent. This puts the JV Grizzlies at 9-3 so far for the season.
