King out as police chief

Dan Newton, Susanville’s interim city administrator, announced the city of Susanville has ended its relationship with police chief John King.

According to a brief statement issued about 9:05 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, Newton wrote, “The City of Susanville decided to separate Police Chief John King from employment with the City of Susanville because of incompatibility of management styles. This separation was effective at the end of the business day Jan. 22, 2018.

Sgt. Kelley Merritt has been appointed Acting Chief of Police.

The Susanville City Council held a special meeting at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22 and in closed session discussed public employee discipline/dismissal release, but the council reported it took no reportable action.
