Kitchen fire damages Riverside Drive residence

A fire that started on a stovetop in the kitchen extended to the ceiling and the floor and caused heavy smoke damage to a Riverside Drive residence.

According to a statement, the Susanville Fire Department responded to 1625 Riverside Drive about 9:54 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, for a multi-family residential structure fire.

Upon arrival, E-621 observed a single-story multi-family residential structure with light smoke showing from the front door of a single Apartment.

E-621 assumed Incident Command and initiated fire suppression efforts. Riverside IC requested T-1 to continue to the scene and canceled all other incoming units. T-1 was assigned to suppression efforts. The fire was quickly knocked down and extinguished.

The fire cause and origin investigation was conducted while the overhaul operation was in progress. The structure was occupied by a single tenant. The investigation of the initial cause of the fire is ongoing at this time.

There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported. SFD was supported by the Susanville Police Department, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Department and the Lassen Municipal Utility District.
