Lady Grizz basketball team battling in the playoffs
Lassen High School’s varsity girls’ basketball team has collected nifty league and section titles and competes for a possible Division 3 state championship. They are ranked 104 in the state, according to Max Preps. Some insiders note this could be the best varsity girls’ basketball team in LHS history.
According to Max Preps, the Lady Grizzlies have posted an impressive 25-6 record for far this year, including an 8-2 record in the Northern League, roaring past West Valley (7-2), UPrep (7-3), Yreka (4-6), Central Valley (4-6) and Anderson (0-10). They went 9-0 at home in The Cave, 9-2 away, 7-4 at neutral sites and currently enjoy a six game win streak.
The Lady Grizzlies dominated the 2023 NCIF Girls Basketball Tournament Division IV Tournament. They had a Round 1 bye on Feb. 14, dropped Yreka 57-30 in Round 2 Feb. 16, West Valley 65-44 in Round 3 and took the championship game against Pierce 57-43 Feb. 25 at Shasta College.
In what some consider a curious and inexplicable move at best, the Lady Grizzles were bumped up a division to Division III for the state championship competition. The 11th-ranked Lady Grizzlies whipped sixth-ranked McKinleyville 59-45 in Round 1 Feb. 28 and face third-ranked Colfax (31-2) tomorrow, Wednesday, March 2. The winner of that game advances to the Regional Finals March 7 and the winner of that game advances to the State Final Championship game March 10.
Go Lady Grizz!
