Lady Grizzlies grab two wins on the road
The Lassen High School Lady Grizzlies’ basketball team was on the road for their last two league games. First was Friday, Feb. 7 when the Lady Grizzlies hit the road to Shasta Lake, California where they beat the Lady Falcons 54-44.
Then Tuesday, Feb. 11 they made their way to Anderson to pick up a 46-34 win over the Lady Cubs.

The Lady Grizzlies wasted no time in the first quarter with Hannah Langenhorst getting the Lady Grizzlies on the board with a basket in the first minute of the quarter.
The Lady Falcons held their own, keeping the quarter close until the Lady Grizzlies made a trio of baskets with three minutes remaining.
Then after a short timeout another string of baskets by Ronnie Merrill and Hailey Mena ended the first quarter 19-10 with the Lady Falcons trailing.
In the second quarter the two teams faced off in a close game with both teams only scoring six points apiece keeping the game with a nine-point difference leading into the half.
Following the half both teams came back and battled for the rebound, but ultimately the Lady Grizzlies’ offense would take control as Mena would sink two three-pointers along with a couple two-point baskets while Merrill and Caitlyn Crosby picked up the rest of the slack.
This widened the gap further for the visiting team putting the Lady Falcons 39-27 behind the Lady Grizzlies before the final quarter.
The Lady Falcons came in the fourth quarter displaying a much more defined offense and stronger defense where they were able to stop the turnovers and manage to outshoot the Lady Grizzlies in the fourth quarter, scoring 17 points to the Lady Grizzlies’ 15 points.
However, the Lady Falcons late game performance came too-little-too-late with the Lady Grizzlies holding a strong gap and beating the Lady Falcons 54-44.
Leading the scoring for the Lady Cougars was Mena who finished with 16 points, while Merrill brought up the rear with 14 and Langenhorst recording 10 points.
Anderson
Coming into the Tuesday, Feb. 11 game, the Lady Grizzlies started in a bit of a rough patch against the Lady Cubs.
But as the quarter progressed Chelsea Williams and Crosby helped to bring them to a tie, then overtook the home team, but the Cubs would make a run toward the end of the quarter to come out on top at 13-11 over the Lady Grizzlies.
The second quarter had Crosby leading the Lady Grizzlies’ scoring through a majority of the quarter, but the Lady Cubs were able to answer shot-for-shot most of the quarter, and the quarter came to a 21-21 tie going into the half.
The third quarter was a wholly different game than the two before it. As the Lady Grizzlies displayed an intense shooting game and were able to keep the Lady Cubs to a zero point quarter, the Lady Grizzlies came out as a team to add 15 points to the board to take a 36-21 lead going into the fourth quarter.
At the final quarter the Lady Cubs had to come back after an abysmal third quarter to prove they were still in the game, and they didn’t disappoint.
The Lady Grizzlies couldn’t quite pull off the offense they displayed previously, but they did a good job keeping the score gap safe, which led the Lady Grizzlies to a 46-34 win over the home Lady Cubs.
The Lady Grizzlies’ final league game before the playoffs was at U-Prep Thursday, Feb. 13.
