Lady Grizzlies take string of losses, comeback against Central Valley
The Lassen High School Lady Grizzlies volleyball team hit a few bumps in the road over the past few weeks taking multiple losses on the road but came back on Tuesday Oct. 1 for a win against Central Valley.
Before their win on the road against Central Valley the Lady Grizzlies battled West Valley on Thursday, Sept. 26 in the Cave at Lassen High School where the Lady Grizzlies fell 3-0 against the visiting team.
West Valley took an early lead in the first set leaving the Lady Grizzlies to only pull out eight points by the end of the set. Kelli Walsh came in with the most kills during the set while Mila Knezevich was making huge digs attempting to battle against the West Valley spiking game.
Second started with a long trade off with both teams fighting for the kill but West Valley came out on top. The Lady Grizzlies battled a hard second set but the West Valley team was able to overtake the Lady Grizzlies defense ending the set 25-7.
The third set was a follow up of the previous two with West Valley just overpowering the Lady Grizzlies the whole way through.
The Lady Grizzlies then hit the road Friday Sept. 28 for a tournament at Anderson High School where they fell to Orland, U-Prep and Yreka. But that’s where the losses ended.
Tuesday, Oct. 1 the Lady Grizzlies pulled themselves out of their losing streak against Central Valley. The Lady Grizzlies won in the first three sets, 25-23, 25-18, 25-18.
Taylore Somerville finished with 14 serving points, Knezevich followed at 10 serving points, and nine digs.
Ronnie Merrill and Walsh both led with five kills, while Chelsea Williams was lead in assists totaling 12 by the end.
