Lady Grizzlies take to the road after home win

The Lady Grizzlies volleyball team had a crazy week following the season opener against Willows Tuesday, Aug. 20.

They followed it up by winning in their second home game against Las Plumas Thursday, Aug. 22 where the Lady Grizzlies won in three sets, 25-13, 25-15 and 25-8.

The Lady Grizzlies then hit the road for a preseason tournament in Yreka, California. The Lady Grizzlies walked out with four wins and three losses, losing to Orland, Mt. Shasta and Wheatland.

But they garnered five wins at the Durham tournament, defeating all but one team in two sets. Those teams were Modoc who lost 25-18 and 25-15 in the second set. Las Plumas was defeated 25-17 and 25-16. Oroville was easily beaten 25-14, and 25-12.

Next was Gridley, who took a beating against the Lady Grizzlies, losing 25-8 and 25-17. Lastly was Durham, who won the first set 25-16, but the Lady Grizzlies brought it back to win 25-17 in the second set and 15-11 in the third.

The Lady Grizzlies did not let the loss of their season opener weigh them down in the follow up Thursday, Aug. 22 game against Las Plumas.

Lady Grizzlies’ libero Mila Knezevich brought in 18 points off the serve, Taylor Somerville tallied nine kills, while Ronnie Merrill finished with seven kills. Chelsea Williams racked up the assists with a total of nine for the night.

The Lady Grizzlies faced off against Modoc, Tuesday, Aug. 27 in a preseason home game; look for the results in the Tuesday, Sept. 10 issue of the Lassen County Times.
