Lady Grizzly soccer ends league with tie, moves on to playoffs

The Lassen High School varsity girls’ soccer team finished the Northern Athletic League play with a 4-4-2 league record after winning against the Anderson Cubs and tying at home against West Valley.

With their record, the girls were seeded seventh of eight teams in the Northern Section California Interscholastic Federation Division II Girls’ Soccer Playoffs.

Lassen took on the Cubs Tuesday, Feb. 6 on the road and left with the 3-0 shutout win.

The Lady Grizzlies scored one goal in the first half and two in the second. Of the goals, Jenna Monahan scored two, Allie Magarrell scored one and Savannah Huskey and Lexie Robinson each had one assist.

As a team, Lassen had a total of 20 shots with 14 shots on goal.

Lexie Robinson spent the full 80 minutes in the goal with a total of seven saves.

The Lassen ladies then traveled home to host the West Valley Eagles for the final conference match.

After struggling on the field initially, the Grizzlies picked it up and ended the game with a 1-1 tie.

West Valley had initially scored in the first half to bring the score to 1-0 by halftime, but with a steal from Magarrell and a goal by Monahan, the Grizzlies made a comeback in the second half to tie up the score.

Lassen managed eight shots on goal while playing head-to-head against the Eagles.

Robinson again spent the game in the goal with a total of 10 saves to her credit.

After finishing the league season, Lassen moved on to playoffs.

The first round of playoffs was held against the Wheatland Pirates Thursday, Feb. 15.

The final score was 2-0, Wheatland. Though the game was not a win for Lassen, hard work and team spirit was overwhelming on the field.

Thus, with an overall record of 5-11-3, the Grizzly girls officially finished their season.
