Congressman Doug LaMalfa announced the Last Frontier health care District in Modoc County will be awarded $1 million for a USDA Rural Development, Emergency Rural Health Care grant.
The LFHCD operates an eight-bed acute care facility, two rural health clinics, a retail pharmacy and a 50-bed skilled nursing facility. In addition, LFHCD provides outpatient services at its two medical clinics, one at the Alturas location and the other in Canby. The district also has a dental clinic at the Canby location. This funding will help improve and expand the district’s health care amenities and equipment.
“Residents in rural Modoc County face big challenges when trying to get to doctors or clinics, and typically have less choices than urban areas,” LaMalfa said. “Longer wait times, increased premiums, workforce shortages, and low recruitment levels plague health facilities all over rural America. This funding will help bridge the gap between rural and urban health needs, benefiting the residents and healthcare workers of Modoc County.”
