LaMalfa says he and Biden agree — COVID-19 pandemic is over

According to a statement from Congressman Doug LaMalfa, “It only took 20 months, but President Biden and I finally agree that the panic-driven COVID pandemic is over. I’ve been asserting this for months and have been trying to knock down overreaching mandates that have been destroying people’s mental health, small businesses and livelihoods. Biden is only saying it now because midterms are right around the corner, and he feels the need to blunt two years’ worth of damage and help his party not lose in a wipeout.

“President Biden can’t have his cake and eat it too. Less than a month ago, Biden used his sham executive privilege to invoke misapplied emergency powers to transfer $10,000-$20,000 of student loan debt onto taxpayers. His administration should also withdraw their recent $22 billion request for new COVID funding. Without a concrete path to swiftly wind down pandemic-era policies, we can expect more spending from the Democrats, causing the deficit to increase, inflation to continue to balloon and government overreach continue to grow. President Biden has been abusing his emergency powers for months, and those special authorities need to be repealed immediately. On Monday, I joined my colleagues in sending a letter requesting he formally terminate the national emergency concerning the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Everyone who lost their job due to vaccine requirements – our servicemembers, healthcare professions, restaurant workers and teachers – should be immediately given their jobs back or reinstated and apologized to for their unfair treatment. Mask mandates in schools should be removed and unvaccinated children be able to freely participate in their extracurriculars and sports again. All governors’ emergency declarations, Emergency Use Authorizations and the PREP Act should be promptly repealed. Then, when Republicans take back the majority, we’ll launch a formal investigation into Dr. Fauci for his role in politicizing COVID-19 and unnecessarily shutting down our country, as well as our government’s financial involvement in dangerous bio-labs in China. The pandemic was exploited as a political stunt and these mandates have caused irrevocable damage to our country. It’s past time to overturn the state of emergency.”
