LaMalfa statement on Title 42 repeal – border patrol agents expecting mass influx through southern border

Congressman Doug LaMalfa released the following statement on the Biden administration’s announcement to repeal Title 42.

“Under President Biden’s open border policies our country has seen one of the worst mass illegal immigration influxes in recorded history,” LaMlfa said. “On his first day in office he halted the construction of the southern border wall and since then a mass influx of illegal immigrants, cartels, dangerous drugs and human trafficking victims have made their way into our country. I visited the border last month and saw firsthand how hard the border agents are working to keep us safe, but without a physical border, their efforts are spread thin. Repealing Title 42 takes away one of the most effective tools they have when expelling those crossing illegally.”

Background
Title 42 is a public health authority enacted during the Trump administration at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Title 42 allows the CDC to exclude immigrants and illegal immigrants from coming into the United States if they pose a health risk to Americans and are from a country with a communicable disease outbreak. The authority will be officially overturned May 23, 2022. U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported they are now trying to prepare for a “record-breaking surge of migrants” at the border from this policy ending.
