Congressman Doug LaMalfa released the following statement on the passage of H.R. 5860, the Continuing Appropriations Act, 2024 and Other Extensions Act.
“Today I supported a 45-day bipartisan extension of the current budget plan,”LaMalfa said. “The purpose is to gain time to finish the Appropriations Committee process to properly authorize government activities, unlike an omnibus bill or a long-term Continuing Resolution. Averting a shutdown is the goal, as it would be too destructive to people and projects, interrupting services, permits, etc. I am hopeful that the Senate will match the action the House took, and the shutdown averted. This bill does not increase spending. It does not include funding for Ukraine and allows Congress to work to finish up individual appropriations bills. This will give Congress the time to focus on reducing spending, securing the border and having a full and transparent debate on our budget priorities.”
