LaMalfa votes for National Defense Authorization Act

Today, Congressman Doug LaMalfa voted for H.R. 8070, the Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025.

“House Republicans’ Defense Authorization Act focuses on threats we face: the increasing use of drone warfare, the escalating threats from China and Iran, as well as the increasing instability in the Middle East,” LaMalfa said. “Republicans address lagging military recruiting by eliminating DEI programs and stopping Biden’s attempts to institute the ‘Green New Deal’ in the military. Importantly, the bill increases pay to our service members, improves housing, and prioritizes veterans’ services.”

Important provisions include:

  • Additional $55 million dollars for upgraded mission operations at Beale Air Force Base.
  • Provides funding for continued use with potential for expansion of operations at Sierra Army Depot.
  • With an eye towards potential near-term conflicts with Beijing, the legislation increases funding for drone countermeasures and anti-drone technologies, hypersonic missiles, offensive and defensive cyberattacks, and high-energy laser weapons.
  • Includes $650 million in priority projects across the Indo-Pacific region, which increase security and logistics capacity in the region.
