LaMalfa votes to award Congressional Gold Medal to fallen servicemembers

Congressman Doug LaMalfa issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 5142, to posthumously award a Congressional Gold Medal to the 13 service members who were killed in action as a result of a suicide bomb attack near Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan, on Aug. 26, 2021.

“The Congressional Gold Medal is the highest honor that Congress can bestow,” said LaMalfa. “These 13 men and women answered their country’s call to help evacuate Americans and our Afghan allies as the Taliban threw Afghanistan into chaos. I join with my fellow representatives in honoring their sacrifice and invite all Americans to join me in prayer for their families.”
