Lassen boys’ soccer win one of three Foothill Tournament
The Lassen High boys’ soccer team traveled to Foothill over the Dec. 2 weekend to steal their first taste of the upcoming season.
The first match waiting for the Grizzlies was against the host team, the Foothill Cougars.
The Grizzlies cheered as they secured their first victory of the season with a final score of 4-2.
The victory was a challenge for Lassen as the first half showed how deep of a home-field advantage the Cougars claimed. Both teams ended the first half with two points in their tally.
During the second half, the Lassen defense bumped it up a notch and formed a wall nearly impossible to escape. When the Cougars did make their way through, however, the Lassen keeper kept the goal safe.
In contrast, the offensive line stayed true to their previously established power. The Grizzlies scored another two points to total their tally to four.
Anthony Wagner was named the Lassen Soccer Player of the Game after the 4-2 win over Foothill.
After the win on Friday evening, the Grizzlies prepared for the two matches ahead of them on Saturday, Dec. 3.
The first opponents waiting for the Grizzlies were the Anderson Cubs.
The Grizzlies fought hard, but the game ended with a 3-0 win for Anderson.
Dustin Morgan was named Player of the Game for the competition against Anderson.
The final Lassen game of the tournament was against the Paradise Bobcats.
Similar to the game against Anderson, the Grizzlies put in dedication and hard work, but ultimately, the score was a 3-0 loss for the Grizzlies.
Jake Harris was named the Lassen Soccer Player of the Game for the game against the Bobcats.
The tournament showed coaches and players alike what the team must do to improve. Now that Lassen has an idea of what works and what fails, their strategy can only improve.
The Grizzlies traveled to Red Bluff over the weekend of Dec. 9 to participate in the Red Bluff Tournament. Results will be published in the Tuesday, Dec. 19 issue.
The first home game for the Grizzlies will be Friday, Dec. 16 against Oroville High School.
