COVID-19 cases continue to rise in both the community and also at the Federal Correctional Institution in Herlong. On Monday, four new community hospitalizations and another death were reported.
As of the Monday, Sept. 13 numbers, there are 191 active community cases of COVID-19 in Lassen County, 2,786 recovered, 10 current hospitalizations and there have been 30 deaths: A total of 3,017 community case — an increase of 75 new cases since the Friday update.
About 12 percent of the active cases are fully vaccinated residents, and 10 percent of hospitalized residents are fully vaccinated, according to Lassen Cares.
Additionally, there have been 7,625 single vaccine doses administered by Lassen County Public Health. This does not reflect the vaccines provided by other organizations in the area. The local public health department is still offering vaccines, and appointments can be made at myturn.ca.gov.
At the local correctional institutions, Lassen Cares reports there are 2 active cases, 2,042 recovered and two deaths at High Desert State Prison. Additionally, there are 2 active cases and 1,420 recovered cases at CCC, and 58 active and 235 recovered at FCI Herlong.
Moreover, CDCR now lists the number of vaccinations at its correctional institutions. According to it’s most recent update, at HDSP for an incarcerated population of 3,270, 2,402 are fully vaccinated and 65 are partially vaccinated for a total of 73 percent fully vaccinated. For the incarcerated population of 2,057 at CCC, 1,386 are fully vaccinated and 17 are partially vaccinated, for a total of 67 percent fully vaccinated.
For staff members at CCC, which is 1,054 people, about 370 are fully vaccinated, or 35 percent, and 17 are partially vaccinated. At HDSP, for its 1,292 staff members, 363 are fully vaccinated, or 28 percent, and 33 are partially vaccinated. Reported vaccinations rates for staff may under-represent actual vaccination rates, as CDCR/ CCHCS personnel may receive COVID-19 vaccinations from community healthcare providers and not all staff are required to report vaccination status at this time.
According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, there are seven positive staff cases. According to CDCR, there are 22 active staff cases at CCC and 16 active staff cases at HDSP. Positive correctional staff tests, if they live in Lassen County, are included in the community cases.
