Lassen Cares updates COVID-19 numbers

Lassen Cares, the county’s COVID-19 reporting site, updated the current pandemic numbers as of 9:11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7.

Lassen Cares reports 66 total community cases — 10 active and 56 recovered; 572 total inmate cases — 122 active cases and 444 recovered cases at the California Correctional Center; one active case and four recovered cases at High Desert State Prison; and one active case at the Federal Correctional Institution, Herlong.

The county has administered 5,021 tests, and 4,761 have been negative and test results are pending on 114 tests.

A total of 236 serology tests have been administered (looking for antibodies), and there have been two positive results and 234 negative results.

According to reporting by CA./gov, there are 588 cases in Lassen County. CA.gov reports the difference in numbers is “Due to issues with the state’s electronic laboratory reporting system … ”

Richard Egan, public information for the COVID-19 Incident Command said despite the discrepancy, he believes the Lassen Cares numbers are both accurate and the best available.
