Lassen County Arts Council announces early summer events — art show, chamber mixer, summer art classes for youths

The folks at the Lassen County Arts Council, 807 Cottage St., announce upcoming events sure to kick the summer art season into high gear.

First up is the Wood & Iron Show and Artist Reception/Chamber Mixer held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at the gallery. This show will have an extended gallery showing and will be open through mid July.

Then the LCAC, in partnership with Rob and Danielle Cannon, offers a Summer Art Program for youngsters June 17 through June 21.

A little history on the Wood & Iron Show
The Wood & Iron Show is getting a well-deserved second chance. Originally, the Wood & Iron Show was set for the summer of 2021 and was only open to the public for one week before the Dixie Fire came to town. Due to the (what we know now to be historic) wildfire event, the show went through a rollercoaster of attempts to remain open for public consumption, however, would eventually have to close due to several contributing factors like air quality hazards, evacuation zones, etc. The show attendance was affected, and the show’s artists did not get the show we planned for.

When the Lassen County Arts Council ended up in an evacuation zone of Uptown Susanville, the Art’s Council quickly removed all show items and relocated them to a safe location for temporary storage. The show was unable to re-open again that year. So now, three years later, the Lassen County Arts Council is excited to bring this show back and give the artists the community audience, talent exposure and support they missed in 2021. And as a bonus, we get to celebrate new pieces and have new artists join this unique show.

The arts council is currently wrapping up the High School Art Show and will be filling the gallery with woodworking pieces, metal, iron, welding, leather and silver pieces. If you would like to connect with Laura for a sneak peek, let her know.
