Lassen Family Services’ Walk A Mile event set for April 24

Lassen Family Services’ annual Walk A Mile event takes place at the Lassen County Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 24.

Participants should register in advance through lfswalkamil.everntbrite.com or on the day of the event at the entrance of the Lassen County Fairgrounds, 195 Russell Ave. Day of the event registration begins at 9 a.m.

Registration is $5 for adults 18 and up. Children 17 and under are free. The first 40 adults to register online will get a free Walk A Mile T-shirt (sizes XL and L only that will be handed out the day of event on a first come, first served basis). Everyone must sign a waiver before participating in the walk.

According to a statement from LFS, the purpose of the Walk A Mile event is to inform the community of the prevalence of sexual assault and child abuse and to provide information on the support services offered in Lassen County.

“We walk to show our support and raise awareness,” the statement read. “Lassen Family Services hosts this event annually during the month of April and at the end of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. The motto of this year’s NCVRW and our goal is to ‘Support Victims. Build Trust. Engage Communities.’ The $5 registration goes directly to our Child Trauma Therapy program that provides therapy to children ages 3-18 who have gone through or witnessed traumatic events.”

Saturday, April 24

  • 8 to 9 a.m. — Vendor set up
  • 9 to10 a.m. — Registration
  • 10:15 a.m. — Color guard
  • 10:30 a.m. — Speakers and presentation of awards
  • 11 to 11:15 a.m. — Begin walk
  • 11:45 a.m. to noon — Color powder toss
  • Noon to 2 p.m. — Explore booths (There will be about 30 booths to checkout.)

 

What to wear

Blue (to spread awareness of sexual assault and child abuse);

Closed toed shoes;

Clothing you don’t mind getting dirty; and,

Sunglasses.
