Lassen High hosts NAL track and field meet

The Lassen High School track and field teams hosted the Northern Athletic League meet against Yreka and Central Valley on Wednesday, May 3.

The Grizzlies worked with as much diligence as always and ultimately saw the junior varsity boys’ team earn first place against the two competing schools. The Grizzly team finished the meet with a total point tally of 74 with Yreka earning second place with a total of 68 points.

Of the many athletes competing in the junior varsity boys’ division, Lassen had six first place finishers as well as two relay teams earn first place.

Nate Acosta finished first in the 100-meter dash with a final time of 11.72 seconds.

Jack Mallery finished first in the 1,600-meter dash with a personal record time of 5:04.33.

Deric Davenport was the first-place finisher in the 3,200-meter dash with a time of 11:39.00.

Sterling Chandler finished the 300-meter 36-inch hurdle event first with a time of 49.01 seconds.

Neil Growdon finished first in the 1.6-kilogram discus event with a personal record distance of 106 feet and 1.5 inches.

Dallin Lee was the first-place finisher in the high jump event with a height of 5 feet and 10 inches.

The first-place finishing team for the 4×100 relay consisted of Acosta, Derek Bettencourt, Lee and Chandler Monahan with a final time of 46.48 seconds.

The first-place finishing team for the 4×400 relay consisted of Chandler, Growdon, Josh Harlow and Sean Longabough. The boys finished with a final time of 4:07.73.

In addition to the junior varsity boys, Lassen had four individual athletes and one relay team finish first in their respective events.

Ariana Miranda finished first in three events for the junior varsity girls’ team. In the 800-meter dash, she finished with a time of 2:41.92. In the 1,600-meter event, she finished with a final time of 6:00.44. In the 3,200-meter event, she finished with 13:37.00 on the clock.

Caitlyn Crosby was first to finish in the junior varsity girls’ 300-meter 30-inch hurdle event with a final time of 1:02.79.

Cynthia Melton finished first in the junior varsity girls’ 4-kilogram shot put event with a personal record distance of 29 feet and 6 inches.

Gabriella Geoia finished first for the junior varsity girls’ triple jump with a season record distance of 28 feet and 7 inches.

The varsity boys’ 4×400 relay team finished first with a time of 4:09.63. The team consisted of Ben Watson, Patrick McConnell, Cole Stewart and Sammy Johnson.

Though not all Grizzlies finished in first place for their respective events, the purple and gold team members still left an enormous amount of passion on the field. The remaining results for the four teams are as followed:

Varsity boys:

For the 100-meter dash, Xyler Elias earned third overall with a time of 12.23 seconds. Johnson finished fourth with a personal record time of 12.25 seconds.

For the 800-meter dash, Stewart finished second with a time of 2:15.30. McConnell finished sixth overall with a final time of 2:53.36.

For the 1,600-meter dash, Jared Lile was third to finish with a time of 5:00.14. Stewart finished fourth with a time of 5:02.67. McConnell finished seventh with 5:53.88 on the clock.

Lile was then the only Grizzly to compete in the 3,200-meter dash; he finished third with a time of 11:33.00.

In the 110-meter 39-inch hurdle event, Watson finished third with 19.52 seconds on the clock. Drew Nickell was fifth to finish with a time of 22.39 seconds.

In the 300-meter 36-inch hurdle event, Nickell finished third with a time of 48.06 seconds. Watson finished fourth with 50.67 seconds on the clock. McConnell was fifth to finish with a time of 52.75 seconds.

For the 12-pound shot put event, Keith McDaniel finished third overall with a distance of 35 feet and 7.5 inches.

McDaniel then finished third in the 1.6-kilogram discus event with a final distance of 102 feet and 3 inches.

For the long jump event, Johnson was the only competing Grizzly. He finished fifth with a personal record distance of 15 feet and 8.5 inches.

 

Varsity girls:

In the 100-meter dash, Erin Zubillaga finished third overall with a time of 13.90 secconds. Kaylee McGuire finished fifth with 14.58 seconds on the board. Geoia was sixth to finish with a time of 14.78 seconds. Savannah Huskey finished seventh with a time of 14.97 seconds.

Zubillaga then competed in the 200-meter event and finished in third place with 29.40 seconds on the clock.

Madee Cluck finished second overall in the 400-meter event with a time of 1:08.34.

For the 100-meter 33-inch hurdle event, Jenna Monahan finished second overall with a personal record time of 19.05 seconds. Chloe Lerusse finished third with a personal record time of 19.24 seconds.

Jenna Monahan then competed in the 300-meter 30-inch hurdle event and finished third with a time of 1:00.53.

The 4×100 relay team finished second overall with a time of 56.19 seconds. Members included Geoia, Huskey, McGuire and Zubillaga.

For the 4-kilogram shot put event, Devyn Stamback finished ninth with a personal record distance of 16 feet and 3 inches. Peak Pornkhunted was next with a 10th-place finish of 12 feet and 11.5 inches.

In the 1-kilogram discus event, Pornkhunted finished ninth with a personal recod distance of 42 feet and 5 inches. Stamback was 10th to finish with a distance of 37 feet and 2.5 inches.

For the long jump, Akilah Bussey and McGuire tied for the third-place finish with a distance of 12 feet and 9.5 inches. Lerusse earned sixth place with a distance of 10 feet and 9.5 inches.

Bussey was the sole Grizzly competing in the triple jump and finished third overall with a distance of 36 feet and 1.5 inches.

Junior varsity boys:

For the 100-meter dash, Bettencourt finished second overall with a time of 11.98 seconds. Chandler Monahan finished fourth with 12.38 seconds on the clock. Mark Trinidad finished fifth in 12.46 seconds. Bradley Woods finished eighth with 13.62 seconds on the clock.

For the 200-meter dash, Bettencourt finished third with a time of 25.07 seconds. Skyler Sager finished eighth with a personal record time of 27.77 seconds.

In the 400-meter dash, Longabough finished second with a time of 59.59 seconds. Growdon was right behind with 59.80 on the clock. Chandler finished fourth with a time of 1:00.67. Sager finished fifth with a time of 1:01.64. Landon Bennett was seventh to finish with a personal record time of 1:08.42.

Jacob Wilburn was the only Grizzly to compete in the 800-meter dash and finished second overall with a final time of 2:24.98.

For the 1,600-meter dash, Davenport finished fifth overall with a time of 5:22.43. Wilburn was sixth to finish with a time of 5:24.20. Trenton Morgan finished seventh with 5:35.84 on the clock.

Morgan also competed in the 3,200-meter dash and finished third overall with a time of 12:20.00.

In the 110-meter 39-inch hurdle event, Lee finished second overall with a personal record time of 18.63 seconds. Tyler Schwagerl finished third with a final time of 21.63 seconds.

The Lassen team consisting of Mallery, Wilburn, Davenport and Trinidad finished second overall in the 4×400 relay with a final time of 4:08.78.

For the 12-pound shot put event, Woods finished fourth with a personal record distance of 38 feet and 5 inches. Harlow finished sixth overall with a personal record distance of 32 feet and 3 inches. Rannon Nicholas was the eighth-place finisher with a personal record distance of 31 feet and 8 inches. Bennett finished 13th with a distance of 28 feet and 2 inches.

For the 1.6-kilogram discus event, Woods finished second with a personal record distance of 97 feet and 4.25 inches. Harlow finished third with a personal record distance of 88 feet and 5 inches. Bennett finished fifth with a personal record distance of 86 feet and 2.75 inches.

For the high jump, Trinidad finished fifth with a height of 4 feet and 10 inches. Eric Smith finished seventh overall with a jump height of 4 feet and 6 inches.

For the long jump, Trinidad finished second overall with a distance of 16 feet and 10 inches. Nicholas finished fifth with a personal record distance of 15 feet and 6.25 inches. Smith finished eighth with a jump distance of 13 feet and 9 inches. Schwagerl was 10th to finish with a distance of 12 feet and 5 inches.

 

Junior varsity girls:

Taylor Fennel finished fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 15.21 seconds.

In the 200-meter dash, Fennel finished fourth overall with a time of 32.08 seconds. Genesy Davis finished sixth with a time of 35.58 seconds.

In the 1,600-meter dash, Mary Cizin finished third overall with a time of 6:22.52.

Cizin then finished the 3,200-meter dash with a time of 13:55.00.

In the 1-kilogram discus event, Melton finished third overall with a season record distance of 72 feet and 3 inches.

For the high jump, Crosby finished fourth overall with a height of 4 feet.

In the long jump event, Geoia finished second overall with a distance of 12 feet and 7.5 inches. Fennel finished fourth with a distance of 11 feet and 7 inches. Davis finished seventh with a distance of 10 feet and 10 inches.

For the triple jump, Davis finished fourth overall with a personal record distance of 24 feet and 5 inches.
