Lassen shooters lead in Redding

On Friday, March 13 three of the Lassen Grizzly Claybreakers, Aidan Divine, the JV captain, and Alexis Pickens and Rylan Pickens, both first year varsity members, braved the intense winter weather to make their way to the Redding Gun Club where they competed in a PITA open trap shooting competition.

The competition was a five-100 round event, staring with a 100 round doubles. Alexis Pickens shot a 74 and Rylan Pickens tallied 67.

Then on Saturday, March 14, the competition continued with 16-yard singles. Divine picked off 86, while Alexis Pickens shot a 94 winning her the High Lady of the shoot, and Rylan finished with 92 targets.

Saturday afternoon moved into handicap singles where the three Grizzlies competed through a heavy hail storm, but that didn’t hamper the Lassen shooters. Divine was able pull off a 78, while Alexis Pickens took another High Lady shooting 90, and Rylan Pickens shot an 80 winning the Highest in Short Yardage.

The morning of Sunday, March 15, the weather continued to pound the competition as it went back to 16 yard singles. Divine showed his strength shooting 94.

Alexis Pickens shot another winning round with a 93 while Rylan Pickens also picked up a win, shooting 92.

At the final competition Sunday afternoon, Divine started out shooting an 83. Alexis Pickens shot her fourth win as High Lady, recording an 89. Rylan finished with an 89, winning High Junior.

Parent Lisa Pickens said in a statement, “Divine did beautifully for his first PITA shoot. They are long and difficult, and he will definitely be racking up the awards before long. Alexis Pickens did great as well, picking up four awards for the shoot. Rylan Pickens was awarded the High Overall Junior decimating all his competition. These Lassen kids keep showing everyone the true champions they are.”
