“Another year and another Junior Fishing Derby for which to prepare,” began a statement from Wade Workman of the Lassen Sportmen Club that puts on the popular annual event.
“The recent snowfall bodes well for a good water year and a strong but not violent Susan River,” Workman wrote. “This year the derby be held Saturday, May 21.
According to the statement, club members will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, in the County Supervisors Chambers, located at 707 Nevada Street, provided it is available. Members will outline the run-up to the derby, assign duties, approve correspondence for sponsors, confirm future meetings and approve initial payouts. Among the payouts will be the fees for the private stocking permit and the permit to hold a fishing contest.
Other meets are tentatively scheduled for Monday, Jan. 24, Monday, Feb. 21, Monday, March 21, Monday, April 25 and Monday, May 16 (if necessary).
