Lassen Sportsmen’s Club cancels Junior Fishing Derby

Unhappy news for hundreds of local children — there will not be a Junior Fishing Derby this year.

According to a statement from the Lassen Sportsmens Club, President Wade Workman met with several prominent individuals in our community, specifically Kevin Jones, interim city administrator; Richard Egan, Lassen County administrative officer and Ramsey Wood, who oversees agricultural water usage in regards to the Susan River.

Wood informed Workman that the McCoy, Hog Flats and Long Lake reservoirs had been drained down to their lowest levels by July 3, and the Susan River would be a bare trickle by Aug. 1 — the date had proposed for the Junior Fishing Derby.

Taking all this information into consideration, the Lassen Sportsmens Club committee has deemed it necessary to cancel the 31st annual Junior Fishing Derby.

“We are greatly saddened by this decision however, feel it is what’s best for our participants,” the committee wrote.

For more information, call Workman at 310-0151, e-mail the club at lassensports[email protected] or find them on Facebook: Lassen Sportsmen’s Club.

“Thank you again for your continued support,” the committee wrote.
