LCC baseball team hosts playoff games

Correction: The playoff games will be played Friday and Saturday, not Thursday and Friday as we originally reported. Lassen News regrets the error.

Following a hard-fought season, the Lassen Community College Cougars host the first State Northern California Regional Playoff games since 2004 — 20 years — facing No. 16 Mario College from the Bay Valley Conference at 4 p.m. Friday, May 3, and 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, followed by a third game if necessary at Frank Ernaga Field at Memorial Park.

The Cougars sat atop the Golden Valley Conference leader board holding first place for all the season until the final week when they fell short. The teams efforts and commitment during the last 16 weeks landed them at the number nine ranked team in all of Northern California out of 42 community colleges. The Cougars posted a 25-13 record going 17-8 in GVC conference play.

According to a statement from LCC baseball, “We as a program appreciate all the support for these student athletes and understanding with our academics over the course of this spring. We would greatly appreciate your support this weekend as our goal is to absolutely pack the grandstands and Memorial Park. Please come and support these student athletes because they have earned it. The weekend schedule is below: Friday — Game 1- May 3, 2024, vs. College of Marin vs Lassen 3 p.m. First pitch (opening ceremony 2:45 p.m.); Game 2- May 4, 2024, Lassen vs College of Marin 11 am; Game 3- May 4, 2024, if necessary, following 35 minutes after game two.,
