LCC golf tournament honors Frank Ernaga

On Saturday, Sept. 8, the Lassen College Foundation and the LCC Athletic Boosters hosted the Frank Ernaga Memorial Golf Classic at Diamond Mountain Golf Course. This is the second year of the tournament, but the first as the Frank Ernaga Memorial Golf Classic.

Ernaga, born and raised in Susanville, was a Lassen High School graduate, a Korean War veteran and record-setting player of the Chicago Cubs during the 1957-58 seasons. He was the only Chicago Cub to hit a home run and triple in the same game to this day. Both hits were off hall of fame pitcher Warren Spahn of the Milwaukee Braves. He passed April 30.

The tournament had 19 teams of four that competed in a best ball tournament for the lowest score, with individual competitions in longest drive, closest to the pin, putting contest and a drawing to compete in a $100,000 shootout.

The winners of the tournament are as follows.
