Leavitt Lake area collision leads to DUI arrest

One was booked into the Lassen County Jail Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 27, after a single vehicle collision in the Leavitt Lake area led to a DUI arrest.

Justin Poteete, 36, of Stsandish, was booked into the Lassen County Jail Wednesday for driving the under the influence of alcohol, according to a statement from CHP-Susanville.

According to the statement, at about 2:40 p.m., “Poteete was driving north on Highway 395 approaching Lake Leavitt Road. Due to his high level of alcohol intoxication, he lost control of his 2013 Hyundai which veered off the highway and struck a wooden utility pole causing moderate right front damage to the Hyundai and breaking the pole at the base. The Hyundai continued on through a wire fence causing more damage. The Hyundai came to rest on private property.”

“Poteete returned to his residence immediately after the collision and contacted CHP. Officer Taylor, ID # 16169 responded, and arrived at the residence within a few minutes. During the investigation into the collision. Potete was found be under the influence of alcohol, and was subsequently arrested for suspicion of DUI. Poteete suffered minor injuries and was transported to Banner Lassen Lassen Hospital where he was medically cleared. Poteete was booked at Lassen County Jail for driving the under the influence of alcohol,” continued the statement.
