LHS announces new We Are Lassen scholarship fund
In an effort to build on the success of the We Are Lassen program at Lassen High School, the administration has launched a fundraising effort to create a scholarship fund for a We Are Lassen student who will be honored at graduation.
Students are recognized by any staff member for representing the monthly We Are Lassen characteristic — Welcoming (September), Excellence (October), Respectful (November), Loyal (December), Authentic (January), Strong (February), Successful (March), Engaged (April) and Noble (May).
The students who display the characteristic can receive a bracelet with that month’s word on it. Students who receive a bracelet are also entered in a weekly drawing for a special shirt.
According to a presentation by Joshua Blackburn, LHS’ assistant principal, “Our mission is to select one student at the end of each year for this scholarship.
“Our plan is to have this scholarship funded by donations from different organizations around our community.
“Since this is our first year, we don’t know how much money we will receive. However, we hope to collect between $1,000 and $1,500.
“Kelli Hanson will collect the funds that are donated and keep track of the students who apply for the scholarship.
“The process for choosing the student will be the same process that we have in place for choosing the We Are Lassen student at graduation.
“The requirements are: No suspensions, must have attended Lassen High for at least three years and represent the qualities of the We Are Lassen Program.
“The student chosen will be recognized at graduation as the We Are Lassen recipient.”
