LHS swim team athlete competes at Masters Meet
The Lassen High School swim team has shown it can swim with the best of them, even in just the two years its been around as four members of the team qualified to compete at the Divisions Championships Wednesday, Oct. 30. Also, one qualified for the Masters Saturday, Nov. 2.
Caleb Heffner, Ayuka Saito, Colby Talley and Emmalee Rotlisberger all qualified to compete in the Divisions Championships.
Heffner competed in the 100-yard breaststroke finishing with a time of 1 minute 23.80 seconds, placing him 15th overall.
Saito competed in the 50-yard freestyle timing in at 26.54 a new personal best, and competed in the 100-yard freestyle with a new best time of 58.49 placing her second in both events and qualifying her for the Masters.
Talley swam in the 200-yard Individual Medley with a new personal best time of 2:52.60 placing him 12th.
Rotlisberger competed in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:52.89 placing her in 10th for the event. She also competed in the 100-yard backstroke timing in at 1:20.69 placing her in seventh for the event.
Then just two days later Saito competed at the NSCIF Masters Championship meet. Saito swam the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 27.07 placing fourth overall. She also competed in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 59.35 placing sixth overall.
Coach Tina Hilburn said, “This is the first time Lassen High’s swim team has had an athlete make it to the Masters meet. It was a great accomplishment for Ayuka and an exciting time for the team.”
