John Franklin Hepburn

John Franklin Hepburn, 82, passed away peacefully at his home in Longmont, Colorado, on Aug. 23, 2021.

Born May 8, 1939, in Maryville, Missouri to George Henry Hepburn and Lucille Marie (Chambers) Hepburn, he spent his early years on their family farm before his family relocated to Colorado, then Wyoming, and finally settled in Susanville, California.

John graduated from Lassen High School in 1956, received an associate’s degree from Lassen Community College in 1962 and attended the University of California at Riverside. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a radar operator in a remote British Columbia location during the Cold War.

John engaged in many professions throughout his life, including corrections officer, flight instructor, realtor, police officer, meteorology assistant, over-the-road truck driver, security guard, entrepreneur and small business owner.

In 1986, John and his family moved to Longmont, Colorado, where he became a meteorology coordinator with the FAA.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Alyce Elaine Edwards, of Susanville, California.

John is survived by his five children: Heather Hepburn, Eric Hepburn, Evan Hepburn, Piper Hepburn and Kelly (Hepburn) Arnold; his grandchildren: Michaela Gibbons, Anthony Gibbons, Ashley Vaszily, Zachary Hepburn, Joshua Hepburn, Joseph Hepburn, Honore Morgan, Tyge Arnold, Mikiyas Arnold and Avery Krier; and his great-grandchildren: Rylie Pizzola, Dylan Pizzola, Anthony Gibbons Jr., Lanna Gibbons and Amelia Vaszily.

A private memorial service will be held at a yet undetermined time.
