Raymond Dale Palmer

Raymond Dale Palmer, 81, of Susanville, California died Sept. 8, 2021 after a long, hard battle with cancer and expedited by COVID-19 in Red Bluff, California at Brentwood Acute Care under the loving care of Mercy Hospice.

Dale was born in St. Marie’s, Idaho on Oct. 22, 1939 and lived there about five years before moving to the Susanville and Westwood areas, spending his childhood years there. He moved to Astoria, Oregon in 1948 until about 1956 when at 17 years old he quit school and joined the United States Air Force proudly serving his country. For two of the four years he was stationed in Tripoli, Libya as a fireman.

Dale once again returned to Susanville where he married and raised his family. Dale worked as a fireman at Stead and at the Herlong military base until his retirement. Dale loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, helping youth with the sport of wrestling and just staying busy.

Dale is survived by his son Michael Palmer; brother Roger Frank; grandsons Wesley Palmer and Marshall Palmer; several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many cousins and a lifetime of friends.

Dale was preceded in death by his father, Marshall Palmer, and his mother, Laura Gallagher, as well as his loving son, Steven Palmer.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Hal Meadows for years of care, the staff at Lassen Nursing and Rehabilitation in Susanville and most recently the staff at Red Bluff Acute Care and Mercy Hospice of Redding.
