LL&TT presents Discover Lassen presentation, ‘Climbing to the top of the Caucasus Mountains’ Wednesday evening

At 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, Lassen Land and Trails Trust hosts a Discover Lassen presentation by Debra Marsino, who will describe her climb up Mt. Elbrus in Russia, the highest peak in the Caucasus Mountains standing at 18,510 feet.

According to a statement from LL&TT, “On her 50th birthday, this self-described ‘Peak Bagger’ decided to climb all 15 of the 14,000+ peaks in California. She reached her goal summiting all without a guide and most in just one day. Then she moved onto higher peaks over 18,000 feet.  Mt. Elbrus was the first of seven high peaks she’s bagged — again with no guide.

“You’ll learn how this mother/son duo dealt a Level 4 travel advisory (do not travel) and the risk of high-altitude sickness, unexpected storms, freezing weather and crossing glaciers and crevasses that claimed the lives of two climbers just a week before she arrived. Her story of determination and grit will inspire you (even if you don’t set foot on an 18,000-foot peak).
