LMUD offers rate assistance to qualifying participants

Power rates have risen, the nighttime temperatures are dropping, and old man winter is on the way. If you’re fumbling deep in your pocketbook to pay your utility bill, don’t despair — help is available.

“The Lassen Municipal Utility District is committed to helping our customers who may need a little extra help when it comes to meeting their utility bill,” said LMUD Public Relations Manager Theresa Phillips. “Our goal is to make sure that no one goes without the power they need.”

LUMD’s Winter Energy Assistance Rate — WEAR —provides assistance to income-qualified customers who may have difficulty meeting their utility bill.

WEAR helps with energy used from October through April when bills can be higher than normal. Customers who qualify for the program will receive a 50 percent discount on the first 1,500 kilowatt hours used per month.

The application process for WEAR is simple and can be completed in just a few minutes.

The applications began Oct. 2, You can find the WEAR application and income guidelines on our website, lmud.org. You can also fill out the application online and upload your supporting documents.

Residents ate lunch while they waited to fill out the WEAR applications.

“If you or someone you know qualifies for WEAR, contact our office at (530) 257-4174,” Phillips said. “Applications are available at the LMUD office, Lassen Economic Development Corporation in Westwood, or if you like, you can request an application be mailed to you.”

Once a completed application is received by our staff the information is reviewed and the application is either accepted or denied and sent back to the applicant. If the application is rejected due to missing or incomplete information, it may be re-submitted after the corrections are made.

If your application is accepted, you will not receive an acceptance letter. You’re welcome to give us a call to confirm, or just look for the credit applied to your November usage on your December billing.

WEAR Income Guidelines
Lassen Municipal Utility District’s Winter Energy Assistance Rate program was developed to help income-qualifying customers while complying with the state of California’s energy conservation plan.

WEAR offers 50 percent discount on the first 1,500 kilowatt-hours per month from November through April for Cycle 02 billing dates and December through May statements for Cycle 01. Maximum assistance is $142.50.

This program is subject to change as necessary by LMUD. Funding for this program is not to exceed the amounts allocated by the 2023/24 board-approved budget. Decisions regarding application approvals or denials are final.
