Local elections season has begun
The March 5, 2024, local election season is upon us.

This, of course, is the Presidential Primary Election for the state of California, formerly held in June.
Local races for seats on the Susanville City Council and the Lassen County Board of Supervisors may be of special interest. Several local individuals have expressed an interest in seeking elected office, and according to rumor control, several others are also considering tossing their hats into the ring.
Lassen County Board of Supervisors
Three seats on the Lassen County Board of Supervisors — Chris Gallagher’s, District 1 seat; Gary Bridges’, District 2 seat; and Aaron Albaugh’s, District 4 seat — are up for election to 4-year terms this March. Gallagher told Lassen News he will not seek re-election.

Susanville City Council
Three seats on the Susanville City Council — Thomas Herrera, Quincy McCourt and Kevin Stafford — are up for election to four-year terms.
According to a staff report for the Tuesday, Oct. 4. Susanville City Council meeting, “The City has a general municipal election scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2024, in which three councilmembers will be elected to a four-year term of office ending June 2028. The process requires a resolution to call the election, a resolution to request consolidation of the election with Lassen County and a resolution adopting regulations for candidate statements on the ballot. The filing period for nomination papers and candidate statements for candidates is Nov. 13, 2023, through Dec. 8, 2023. In the event one of the incumbents chooses to not run for office, the Elections Code provides for a five- day extension of the nomination period extending the date through Dec. 13, 2023.”
