Noah Jones earns two silver buckles for his two first place finishes and one second place finish at the annual Crab Buckle Trapshoot over the first weekend in January 2017.
The Del Norte Rod and Gun Club in Crescent City, California, held its annual Crab Buckle Trapshoot on Saturday, Jan. 7 and Sunday, Jan. 8.
Only one Lassen County resident made the trek through the storm, and that was Noah Jones, varsity team captain for the Lassen Grizzly Claybreakers.
There were 75 shooters in attendance, and the conditions were miserable with rain pouring down and more than two inches of standing water on the walkways.
While Jones wasn’t shooting as a Claybreakers, he represented Lassen County well. He brought home two beautiful silver buckles for two first places and one second place finish.
On Jan. 8, Jones crushed 97 targets out of 100 to win the junior buckle, and also won the short yardage handicap with a score of 91, thus earning him a second buckle.
On Jan. 9, Jones entered the singles event and shot a score of 91 to take second place.
The Grizzly Claybreakers’ coach Phil Giusti said, “These would be great scores in perfect weather conditions, but to accomplish them in the pouring rain is quite a feat.”
Giusti congratulates Jones on his win, and for making the team even more proud.
“What a great role model and leader,” Giusti stated.
