Local trap champ named Rookie of the Year

Lassen High School student, Caleb Montgomery recently traveled to Lincoln, California to compete in the Pacific International Trap Association State Championships that took place May 23 through May 27.

Montgomery made Lassen proud, competing against some of the best trap shooters in the state on Thursday, May 23, winning the “A” Class singles champion and overall handicap championship by winning a 50 round shoot off with a AA class 27 yard shooter.

Montgomery also competed for the PITA “Rookie of the Year” title over the next few days and won the high overall average champion title out of three events.

After this win, Montgomery will solely represent the entire state of California in the ROTY event as he travels to Spokane, Washington in July to compete in the PITA Grand Pacific National Championships.

Hundreds of shooters from all over the western United States and Canada will be competing over a seven-day period in multiple events.

Montgomery has competed in the PITA events around the state all season and currently is in first place for the California Series title, awarded in November of this year.

Montgomery rejoins the Lassen High School Claybreakers June 15 and 16 as they compete in the CYSSA State Championships.
