Locals set to rock the country

Spend an evening dancing, listening to local talent and supporting an organization dedicated to bringing entertainment and music to Lassen County.

At 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24 and Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Veterans Memorial Hall, the Susanville Best of Broadway presents its fundraising concert Rockin’ The Country, an event featuring rock and country music performed by more than 20 local performers and featuring local band, Timeless.

“It’s country music with a little bit of rock,” said the concert’s Production Manager Shawn Anderson.

Tickets may be purchased at Margie’s Book Nook, the Chamber of Commerce or at the door.

Annually, the fundraising concert helps Susanville Best of Broadway raise funds for the large and always impressive Best of Broadway Show in March.

“For me, it’s about families being able to do Broadway,” said Anderson. “(The concert) helps in every facet. We’re a nonprofit. With this we’re able to make sure everyone can do Broadway.”

Along with live music and dancing, attendees can enter to win a Traeger Grill Pro 22, and there will be a cash bar hosted by the American Legion, Post 204. There will also be a concessions stand.

Ultimately, this event is fun for not only attendees, but the cast as well, Anderson noted.

“It helps show a different side of the local performers,” he said.

This year, attendees can dance the night away to locals performing some classics like “Chicken Fried,” by the Zac Brown Band; “I Think I’ll Just Stay Here and Drink,” by Merle Haggard; and “Take it Easy,” from the Eagles. Anderson also said there will be a tribute song to the Veterans Hall this year.
