Lynne Marie Gerig June 22, 1941 – July 31, 2023

Lynne Marie Gerig, 82, passed away July 31, 2023, at her home in Bieber, California. Her wisdom, strength, and love for her family and friends will be greatly missed.
Lynne was born to Harry and Alice Flournoy on June 22, 1941 in Alturas, California. She spent her entire childhood surrounded by her parents, three sisters, and many extended family members in Likely, California, where her parents owned the Likely General Store. Her family always enjoyed spending time together.
Growing up, Lynne was actively involved in 4-H, raising pheasants and dogs, participated in gymnastics, played basketball and was a member of the Masonic Lodge Rainbow Girls.
After graduating from Modoc High School in 1959, Lynne married Peter Gerig of Bieber, where she would spend the next 64 years living as his wife on the Gerig Ranch, where she fell in love with the people and the lifestyle of Big Valley. Born to this union were three children.
She was a very devoted wife and mother who took pride in caring for her husband and children. She rarely missed being present for anything her immediate family members were involved in. She supported Peter in his many ranching, roping and hunting endeavors, and was a fan and supporter of all the events, but most especially the sporting activities, her kids and grandkids participated in. When her kids attended elementary and high school at Big Valley, Lynne was an active member of the school’s PTA and Booster Club and served as a room mother in her children’s classrooms for many years.
Lynne was a member of the Federated Community United Church of Christ in Alturas, where she regularly attended for many years, before coordinating with Reverend Bob Ropp, to bring “home-church” to other ranching families in Big Valley. Once a month for many years, these families met in each other’s homes to enjoy a pot-luck meal and a spiritual message. Life-long friendships were established through home church, and Lynne was very proud of its success.
After working for the Soil Conservation office in Bieber for several years in the 1960s, Lynne went to work as a clerk for the United States Postal Service working at the Bieber Post Office for 30 plus years, retiring from her position in 1998. This was a job she loved and was very devoted to.
Her family and friends meant everything to Lynne and she was dedicated to making a conscious effort to keep in touch with members on all sides of her family tree, as well as her friends and neighbors. She is known by many for her eloquently written cards and letters, which were sent to various family members and friends on a consistent basis and always during a time of need. If she felt there was someone in her life who needed support or assistance, Lynne made it happen through food, friendship, or monetary help. She always put the well-being of others before her own, but this brought her great joy.
Lynne is survived by her husband, Peter; her daughter Lori Salters of Bieber, her son and daughter-in-law Bryan and Shannon Gerig, both of Bieber; sisters and brother-in-laws, Sharon and Ed Berryessa of Cedarville, California, Becky and Bob Franzoia of Sacramento, California, and Sally and Tom of Rocklin, California; Granddaughters: Kassidy Salters of Pilot Hill, California, Hilary and Tyler Seliger of Redmond, Oregon, and Abby Salters of Bieber, California; Grandsons: Kellen, Konnor, and Kendell Gerig of Bieber, California; Great-Grandchildren, Lilyana and Duke Seliger of Redmond, Oregon; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lynne is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Alice; her son Curtis; and her son-in -law Hoss.
Donations in Lynne’s memory may be made to a Big Valley Charity of your choice.
A memorial service for Lynne is being planned for a later date and will be announced in the near future.
