Main street pedestrian fatalities remain under investigation

Susanville Police Captain Ryan Cochran said the two pedestrian fatalities on Susanville’s Main Street remain under investigation, and for that reason there’s not much information he can release.

According to the SPD, a pedestrian was struck and killed about 6:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6 near the intersection of Main and Mesa streets. The pedestrian was struck as she was crossing Main Street outside of a crosswalk. The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office identified the pedestrian as Danyell Louise Bailey, 36.

A hit-and-run driver struck and killed a woman on the 1800 block of Main Street about 8:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17. The initial investigation determined the woman was possibly hit by a dark-colored SUV.

Cochran said investigators are talking to a person who came forward and said they may have been involved. The LCSO identified the pedestrian as Jennifer Lee McDonald, 37.

The official cause of death in both cases is still pending.
