McFarland promoted to fire captain

Fire Chief James Moore announced Kalvn McFarland has been name Fire Captian.

According to a statement from Moore, “Recently the Susanville Fire Department conducted an internal recruitment for the position of Fire Captain. I would like to announce that Fire Apparatus Engineer Kalvn McFarland has been selected as the successful candidate for Fire Captain.

“Kalvn started his career with the Susanville Fire Department in 2005 as a fire explorer in the BSA Explorer Post No. 2911 where he served for two years. In 2007 Kalvn applied to the Susanville Volunteer Fire Department and was voted in as a volunteer firefighter. The city of Susanville hired Kalvn as a full-time permanent firefighter in 2008, and he has since promoted through the ranks of firefighter I, firefighter II and fire apparatus engineer while also serving three tours of duty with the Army National Guard and obtaining his EMT-paramedic license.

“I have no doubt Kalvn will continue to serve our community and the Susanville Fire Department with devotion, pride and respect.

“Congratulations, Captain McFarland.”
