Mill property fire reignites

According to a statement from the Susanville Fire Department, firefighters responded to as vegetation fire at the old mill property about 2:17 p.m. Thursday, July 21. Units arrived on scene and reported an approximately 1⁄4 acre fire with a moderate rate of spread.

This fire was a rekindle of the July 19 fire. That fire had been turned over to the property owner for observation and mop up. The July 19 fire was human caused and is under investigation.

With assistance from CalFire and Lassen National Forest, firefighters deployed a hose lay and extinguished the fire. Forward progress was stopped, and fire crews proceeded to cut a hand line and perform a 100 percent mop up. CalFire dozers put a dozer line around the fire.
