New Clean California interactive website educates, inspires action

CalTrans’ Clean California has a new, interactive website designed to inspire folks to take pride in their community by committing to clean up and beautify their favorite spaces.

This website has several features:

  • Educational – the education page features lesson plans, activities, and a K-12 contest in which kids are eligible to win $500.
  • Volunteer – Find and join a local clean up event, plan your own, or volunteer for adopt-a-highway.

In addition to this new website, CalTrans District 2 Clean California team is also working to educate and involve youth in keeping California clean. The District 2 Clean California team has visited youth across the district, engaging them in clean up events, activities, presentations, and sharing the Clean California coloring book to encourage kids to take pride in their communities. Families can pick up their free copy of the coloring book at participating libraries.

For coloring books and to learn more about how to get involved in the Clean California program or if your school or library would like a visit from the Clean California team, visit CleanCA.com or email D2PIO@dot.ca.gov.

The Clean California program is a sweeping, $1.2 billion, multiyear clean-up effort led by Caltrans to remove trash, create thousands of jobs, and join with communities throughout the state to reclaim, transform and beautify public spaces.

Since launching Clean California in July 2021, Caltrans has removed nearly 2.2 million cubic yards of litter from state highways – or enough to fill 670 Olympic-size swimming pools.

The program has also created nearly 8,700 jobs that have helped Californians overcome barriers to employment and drawn more than 10,000 volunteers to events ranging from community cleanups to large debris collections for appliances, tires, and mattresses.
