New Miss Lassen County crowned tonight
They’ve spent weeks preparing for the annual Miss Lassen County competition, and now the nine contestants vying for the title and scholarship will grace the grandstands stage tomorrow night at 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, at the Lassen County fair.
The nine girls, Bailey Nuckols, Ariana Miranda, Becky Struthers, Kendall Hubbard, Sophia Meraz, Hannah Heimbigner, Hailey Moore, Megan Mackay and Gracie Claypool, will be judged on 15 percent community service, 15 percent scholastic achievement, 15 percent communication skills, 20 percent talent, 20 percent personality interview and 15 percent impromptu question and poise before the crowning of the court.
Wednesday’s pageant will feature the contestant’s talent, impromptu question and poise.
This year has a special feature, though.
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the pageant, 10 former Miss Lassen County’s are returning for the ceremony and there will be a display in Jensen Hall featuring photos and pageant mementos from past years.
“I am looking forward to seeing the past Miss Lassen’s and am so proud to be a part of the longstanding tradition at the Lassen County Fair,” said pageant director Shelley Bennett.
However, Bennett also noted the past 50 pageants would not be possible without those who helped sponsor and promote the competition.
“Thank you to the Lassen County Fair Board and all of our sponsors throughout the past 50 years who kept us going,” she noted.
Each of the nine contestants this year has sponsors who help them during the competition.
The 2018 pageant contestant sponsors are as follows:
Mallery Law sponsors Claypool and Dr. Northrup, DDA and Hair Hunters sponsors Heimbigner.
Gold Run Cabinets and Billington Ace Hardware is sponsoring Hubbard, and Mackay is sponsored by JandJ Performing Arts and El Cuatero.
Meraz has Dr. Beuhler, DDS and Knezevich Construction and Painting sponsoring her, and Miranda is sponsored by Dr. Rose, DDS and Iron Horse Gym.
JandJ Performing Arts and The Beauty Bar are sponsoring Moore, with Milwood Florist and Pizza Factory sponsoring Nuckols. Iadho Butcher Shoppe and CCPOA sponsor Struthers.
With a lot of planning ensuring the 50th anniversary is a success, be sure to catch the Wednesday night pageant and crowning to see who will be named to the 2018 court.
