New Year’s Day shooting leads to arrest
Michael Gracia, 27, of Susanville, was booked into the Lassen County Jail on charges of attempted murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm following a shooting at the Parkview Garden Apartments in Susanville early New Year’s Day. His bail is set at $510,000.
The victim, an unidentified 44-year-old man, suffered two gunshot wounds and was listed in critical condition at an out of the area hospital.
According to a statement from the Susanville Police Department, officers responded to a reported shooting at the apartments at 1 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1. Upon arrival, the officers found the gunshot victim. He could only provide minimal details prior to being transported to a hospital. A male suspect with a firearm was identified as being involved, and he reportedly had fled the area.
SPD officers, California Highway Patrol officers and Lassen County Sheriff’s deputies, searched the area for the suspect but were unable to locate Garcia.
At approximately 2 a.m., officers confirmed Garcia’s location inside an apartment at the complex. An occupant of the building assisted the SPD in communicating with Garcia by phone, requesting that he come out of the apartment.
Garcia exited the apartment without incident and was arrested. The weapon used in the shooting was recovered at the crime scene, as were multiple items of evidence.
