Newton returns as interim city administrator, Jones receives proclamation

Dan Newton was welcomed back on his return as interim Susanville city administrator, and Kevin Jones received a proclamation honoring his time in the position, during the Wednesday, March 17 Susanville City Council meeting.

Newton takes over the role after Jones, former city administrator/ chief of police, announced his retirement as city administrator, effective March 5. Jones is continuing in his position as chief of police.

“We want to welcome back Dan Newton as our interim city administrator,” Mayor Mendy Schuster said Wednesday. “He has held the position before and we’re glad to have him. After Kevin Jones’ resignation as city administrator, Mr. Newton was unanimously voted in by our entire council.”

Schuster added Jones agreed to assist in the transition.

The board also presented Jones with a proclamation during the meeting.

“In appreciation for your leadership, individual talents and concerned dedication so generously given in your service as city administrator/chief of police, your leadership has been invaluable,” read the proclamation.

“During this COVID-19 pandemic, catastrophic wildfires of 2020 that threatened the city, coordinating the goals and priorities of a new city council, all while performing the duties of both city council administrator and chief of police,” continued the proclamation.

Schuster added her personal thanks to Jones for his efforts.
