NIH admits Fauci lied to Congress; LaMalfa says he should resign, face prosecution
The National Institute of Health notified Congress that it was aware, as of 2018 and 2020, that (the) EcoHealth Alliance did conduct gain of function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China.
This research was not allowed under the grant’s rules. Researchers and NIH maintain this research could not have led to the creation of the current virus SARS-CoV-2, which causes the disease COVID-19.
According to Wikipedia, “gain-of-function research is medical research that genetically alters an organism in a way that may enhance the biological functions of gene products. This may include an altered pathogenesis, transmissibility, or host range, i.e. the types of hosts that a microorganism can infect. This research is intended to reveal targets to better predict emerging infectious diseases and to develop vaccines and therapeutics.”
According to a statement from Congressman Doug LaMalfa, (Dr. Anthony) Fauci has repeatedly testified in the House and Senate that NIH did not fund research that was gain of function and had a heated exchange over this specific claim with Senator Rand Paul.
EcoHealth Alliance had also sought a grant from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency in 2018 but was denied funding because DARPA was worried that the coronavirus experiment funding request could “potentially involve (gain-of-function) research” and “could have put local communities at risk.”
Fauci has repeatedly testified before both the House and Senate that this research did not occur.
LaMalfa has called on Fauci to resign and will be requesting that the Department of Justice pursue perjury charges for knowingly and intentionally lying to Congress.
“For the past year and a half, critical decisions for the whole country have hinged off of Dr. Fauci’s advice and decrees,” LaMalfa said. “Two presidents have used his advice as the basis for our nation’s response to COVID-19. Yet here we have incontrovertible proof that he has been intentionally lying to Congress. How can any American trust his judgment or that he will tell them the truth when he can look members of Congress in the eye and boldly lie about gain of function research? Dr. Fauci must resign and should face prosecution for perjury. If he would lie about gain of function research, what else would he lie about?”
