No one injured in Highway 36 solo collision

A San Francisco man was uninjured after his box truck overturned Friday.

At about 10:30 a.m. May 7, the  Susanville CHP dispatch received a call of a reckless driver in a box truck, traveling east on Highway 36, approaching Fredonyer Pass, according to a statement from CHP. Approximately 6 minutes later, dispatch was notified that the same box truck had overturned and was now on it’s side in the middle of the eastbound lanes of Highway 36, just east of Fredonyer Pass.

Investigating CHP Officer M. Major identified the collision as a non-injury, solo vehicle collision.

The single occupant, Xuanzhong Yang, 58, of San Francisco was driving a 2019 Hino commercial box truck, at an estimated 30 to 40 miles per hour when he lost control and overturned. Mr. Yang was wearing a seatbelt.

Although initial reports were that the box truck was filled with immature marijuana plants, officer Major determined the load within the box truck as being immature industrial hemp plants.

This collision is under investigation by officer Major. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this collision.
