The Nutcracker returns for a fourth year
Local dancers will be performing the Nutcracker for a fourth year. The Lassen County Arts Council and Best of Broadway have partnered to bring the Reno Dance Company back to Susanville for three performances on Nov. 19 and 20 at the Veterans Memorial Hall.
“We have over 120 children this year compared to our last three performances that included approximately 75 children in each show,” said Roxanna Haynes, the Lassen County Arts Council treasurer.
The three shows will take place at the Veterans Memorial Hall at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday Nov. 19 and at 2 p.m. Sunday Nov. 20.
“The more seats that are filled, the more it encourages and wows the children participating,” said Denise Larimer, Administrative Assistant at the Lassen County Arts Council.
Larimer said that working with the dancers from the RDC helps to boost the confidence of young dancers and helps them to continue pursuing dancing.

According to the sponsor letter sent out by the council, the RDC is a non-profit organization that provides an intensive program of dance training and professional performance to local audiences and to Nevada’s rural cities, striving to offer local dancers a home to display their talent.
The RDC uses its Outreach Program to inspire and cultivate dancers. Both LCAC and BOB continue participating in the Outreach Program because it benefits local youth.
“Without community support we could not make this happen,” said Larimer.
Haynes said she enjoys seeing more and more children participating each year.
“We’re seeing more young boys participate,” said Haynes. “Hopefully we’ll attract more boys to participate in years to come.”
If interested in attending the event, tickets can be purchased at the Lassen County Arts Council and Margie’s Book Nook.
The event has many local sponsors, including Diamond Mountain Casino and Hotel, Sean Buehler DDS, Susanville Paint Center and Skyline Self Storage.
