Earl Gene Grooms
Earl Gene Grooms was born on Oct. 6, 1930 and passed away on Sept. 22, 2017. He was born in Sheridan, Wyoming and was one of 10 siblings.

He moved to Janesville in the 40s, and graduated from Lassen High School. He served in the army for four years, and two years in the reserve.

He is survived by one brother, Archie Grooms, of Sheridan, Wyoming; one sister, Joan Neely, of Janesville; and one son, Aaron Grooms, of Susanville.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 28 in Janesville at 463-770 Raines Road.

Jaime Guzman Sr.

Jaime “Jimmy” Guzman Sr., age 88, of Susanville, California, passed away on Oct. 4, 2017. He was born Dec. 8, 1928, in Westwood, California, and was proud of being an Old-Towner. Jaime was a veteran of the Korean War, where he earned several medals, including the Purple Heart. After discharge, he attended Lassen College and Chico State University, earning a teaching credential. He returned to Lassen County where he began his teaching career, having taught at Roosevelt School, Lincoln School, Herlong High, California Correctional Center and Lassen High.

During his tenure, he was also a successful basketball coach. He was proud of being a teacher and of the positive influence he had on so many lives. He is remembered fondly by generations of students. He had a deep love for his family, including his three grandchildren, and was anxiously awaiting the birth of his first great-grandchild.

Mr. Guzman was proceeded in death by his wife and high school sweetheart, Betty Groom, along with his brothers, John Guzman, Joe Ramirez and his sister, Maria Archuleta. He is survived by his children, Jaime Guzman (Allison), Maria Giacomelli (Bob) and Juan Guzman; his three grandchildren, Scott Giacomelli, Steven Giacomelli and Ashley Kinstle (Curtis Kinstle); his brother, Lecho Guzman (Anita); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. this Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
