As Lassen County shudders from the effects of the closure of the California Correction Center — one of the county’s largest employers, an Oregon High School senior would like to collect comments for a class project.
Aanna Farhang is enrolled in a Crime and Punishment Honors Seminar working on a project for a unit on punishment and prisons.
“My teacher grew up in Susanville and has opened my eyes to the scheduled closing of the California Correctional Center,” Farhang wrote. “For my project I am creating an investigative podcast into the effect of the closing of prisons on local economies and communities, specifically focusing on Susanville … I’d love the opportunity to share your community’s story. Farhang would like to conduct the interviews between now and Dec. 16 or even after the holidays between Jan. 1 and Jan. 6.
