Pheasants Forever hold Junior Pheasant Hunt
Pheasants Forever Northeastern California Chapter 483 sponsored its annual Junior Pheasant Hunt Saturday, March 9 at Green Gulch Ranch, in Sierra Valley.
The hunt provides the members of our and surrounding communities the opportunity to learn to be true sportsmen and sportswomen.
There were 17 youth hunters in the morning and 16 youth hunters in the afternoon. Pheasants Forever Chapter 483 was pleased to help facilitate six first time hunters achieve successful hunts.
Chapter 483 purchased 100 birds and 20 birds were graciously donated by Steve Strickland, more than 70 birds were harvested between the two hunts.
Breakfast and lunch were provided to all the shooters and volunteers.
This hunt could not have been a success without the 18 adult and parent volunteers from the local area, Green Gulch Ranch, dogs and their handlers, and the funding supported through the Annual Pheasants Forever Banquet.
Pheasants Forever is a nationwide non-profit organization that has many goals.
Pheasants Forever is committed to creating and providing habitat for game and other birds and wildlife. In the last two years, chapter 483 has done this by investing in equipment and seed to create conservation plots.
This provides habitat for the local pheasant population. Their motto “No child left indoors,” is accomplished by holding junior hunts, which provide local youth a chance to learn, in a safe environment and promote a lifetime appreciation for wildlife of all types.
The annual Pheasants Forever Banquet is its only fundraising event. The money raised by the community stays local and is used for youth and veteran hunts, and habitat projects.
Pheasants Forever Northeastern Chapter 483 will be holding its 30th Annual Banquet on April 6, 2019 in Jensen Hall at the Lassen County Fairgrounds. For tickets or more information, call Cody Waltman at 310-1366.
